Darius Jones - state track meet results

darius won the bronze medal in the long jump finishing in third place with a jump of 23-03.25. The 2nd place jump was just 1.5 inches longer at 23-04.75. The gold winning leap was 23-09. Congrats to Darius and I'll post the triple jump results when they are available.

3 Mavs Sign

Three Maverick baseball seniors have signed to play college ball. Dustin Fitzgerald and Jackson Hood signed to play for the Hill College Rebels. Jared Gobert will be moving across town to play for the ETBU Tigers and Coach Blackmon. The pictures should be in Sunday's Marshall News Messenger.

Jared Hood (UT-Tyler) was recently named to the All Conference team.

Former Maverick standout Corey Brown is finishing up at Hill now and will move on to UL-Monroe next fall.

Harelton & Linden-Kildare playoff game

Harelton & Linden-Kildare square off tonight on Maverick Field (if the weather holds out) at 6:30pm for a best of three series playoff matchup. Game 2 is scheduled for 1pm same place on Saturday. With game 3 following immediately after.

It will be great to see a Jackie Lloyd coached team back on Maverick Field.

I wonder if Jerry Bennett will make it out there seeing that he is the new AD of L-K.

A host of Marshall ties in this one. Good luck to both teams and...

Darius and Dameon First Ratings

Darius Jones was rated a four star wide receiver and Damion Smith was rated as a three star wide receiver for their first ratings on Scout.com. It's nice to see some local players get some recognition. Well done, Darius and Damion.

Mavs baseball take Nac down

Marshall Mavericks used senior night at Maverick Field to play one of their best games of the year. The Mavs had senior starters at first base (Jackson Hood), second base (Al Agnor), third base (Dustin Fitzgerald), left field (Ryan Hall), center field (Sawyer Hall), right field (Sam Baldwin) and catcher (Jared Gobert). R. Hall left early in the game due to a migraine and was replaced by senior Nathan Hicks. The Mavs used six hits(I think) to eke out two runs and beat the Nacogdoches Golden...

Lil' Mav Night

It will be Lil' Mav Night At Maverick Field tonight (4-11-08). The Maverick varsity and their future replacements will be introduced before the 12-4A district game between Hallsville and Marshall. Ceremonies will start a little earlier than usual. Game time is 6pm.

District track meet

Marshall girls finished 4th, JV boys won the meet & varsity boys finished 2nd behind Nac (were leading heading into the last event). Darius Jones won the long jump, triple jump and 100m. Aaron Franklin won the 200m. There was a strong opposing wind that slowed down times. (Also, my niece Ashley Ratcliff came in 2nd in the 400m behind Hallsville's Jaquelyn Hearn.) Marshall has several athletes advancing to the regional meet in 2 weeks at UNT.

Baseball Game Time Changed

Start time for the Marshall-P.T. baseball game has been moved up 1 hour. Game time is 5pm @ Maverick Field.
It will be MYBA Youth Sppreciation Night again. Any MYBA player that shows up in uniform will get into the game free.

Jacksonville Baseball

I just got word that the Marshall JV Red team's baseball game scheduled for here tonight (4-4-08) has been cancelled due to J'Ville not being able to field a team. Seems the kids just didn't show up for practice. How can that happen in a city of that size and what happens to the kids that live there and want to play ball? Move out? Wait to get on varsity?

This seems very odd (sad) to me. Is it the schools lack of interest in the program or just the kids?

Longview gets 10th game; Mavs schedule finalized??

Longview was finally able to get themselves a 10th game. They will play Barber's Hill (Houston) early in the season to fill out the schedule. Longview has a bye week in the final week of the season. Barbers Hill is a 4A school from the Houston area. They were 6-4 last season. The game will either be played in Barbers Hill or could be played in the Lufkin-Nac area. TBA.

Question on the Maverick schedule.... will Jacksonville be in week 0??? I assumed it would be. And is...

Texas High- Grim Stadium Improvements

Venerable Grim Stadium the home of the Texas High Tigers looks like it is in for improvemets and more then likely they will be done soon.. (1.)The plan calls for 93,000 sq. feet of concrete to surround the stadium with 160 parking spaces. 2. A new field house will be constructed 3. Also new concession stands. with six serving windows. As most know, the press box is in the process of a rebuild and will be renamed the Al Hannah press box. Al has been the voice of the Tigers for years and...
