13-4A vs. 14-4A - Who Wins ???

The playoffs are here and let's see some predictions on the winners of the battle of 4A in East Texas.

Here are mine:

Div II - Marshall over Kilgore 28-21. This could be close since the game is in Kilgore. Go Mavs..

Sulphur Springs over Lindale (game played at Van) SS 32- Lindale 15 . Wildcats have a tradition to uphold as the defending state champs in Div II

Div I Longview (game played at Lobo) Longview 42 - Whitehouse 18...

The best part of the high school football season is here. Can Marshall beat Kilgore two times in a row? Obviously Kilgore has improved since the Mavs first played them earlier in the season. On the other hand, so have the Mavericks.

If the Mavericks come out and play like they did in the first half agaisnt Mount Pleasant, they might find themselves down by two scores in the first half. That would not be good. Marshall needs to step up the intensity and avenge the bi-district loss...

I think anyone that keeps up would agree that this season has been a difficult one to watch.

Headed into this season there was a lot of excitement with the prospect of NIGHT games for the Tigers. I'd like to see the numbers, but it appears to me that attendance has been significantly higher with the night games versus the day games we've seen in the years past.

I could be wrong, but I think the homecoming game 2 weekends ago may have broken an attendance record...

I'm not sure where I heard or ead this.... but is it true they are playing for the district title tonight?

I know they tied Longview, but I have no idea how the other district games have gone.

Halls?
PT?
Longview- I know they tied 21-21 I think
Texas High- I know they won the first game that was sceduled to take the place of LE, but I dont think it counted as a district game that time.
SS- I think this game got cancelled because of the flooding....

Wow. Marshall did not stop against Sulphur Springs. When SS scored on their first possession I thought the Mavs would be in trouble. Great play by Mavs the defensive front . They put pressure on the QB all night. He did most of his throwing on the run.

I did not realize this until I read the Marshall News Messenger this morning. Mavs score on four of their five posessions in the first half. Once again, no need for a passing attack since the running game was moving down the field....

Playoff Road

This is still VERY muddy looking with 2 weeks remaining for the regular season, but I thought it would be interesting to see how things were to shake out.

Obviously....our biggest concern is for Marshall to win out the final two games and clinch the top seed in 4A Div II. If we lose to SS or MP, then all this changes. NOT to mention....several of the other districts invoved are still undecided too.

With all that said.... here is a FUZZY pic of how our post season road...

The Marshall broadcast has gotten better each week this year. Jamie Horton and Mike Midkiff are starting to come together and do a nice job in their first season working together. I really enjoyed the halftime interview last week with Marshall Assistand AD, Brent Sipes. He was very informative about field turf, and it sounds like Marshall has one of the best turfs in the area. Mavs - SS game location

Dropped by practice this afternoon and there was talk of game being moved to Mt Pleasant or Commerce, coaches will get together tomorrow and decide where. The location in Commerce wold be at A&M-Commerce's stadium. I have heard that there are only stand on one side, does anybody know this for sure.

Muddy field in Sulphur Springs for the Mavs

The Marshall vs. Sulphur Springs game looks like a true mud game with the heavy rains we have today. I doubt the field will be in any shape for a varsity game by Friday. . With Mt. Pleasant off this week I wonder if SS/Marshall would consider playing at the MP field which has an artificial surface and is larger on the visitor side.

I doubt SS would do this, but it is an option if all three schools (MP included)

Changes in 2010 to your non district schedule ???

Let's have some fun. Assume 13- 4A is the same as it is now. Who would you like to drop or add to your teams non district schedule for the next two years ? Would anyone want to play 3A Gilmer or 3A Carthage ? Carthage is close to Marshall and is coached by the former Texas High Offensive Coordinator. How about JT if they are not in your district ? Would Ennis play home and home ? If Kilgore...

With two weeks to play in 13-4a, it is obvious that Longview is the district champ. No way do they get beat by Pine Tree on Thursday. They fiinish at 6-0. Now with Marshall at 3-1 and Texas High, Hallsville and Sulphur Springs all at 2-2, how will it play out? Or is it to early to try to figure out the scenarios.

I tried to put it down on paper, but I think will have to wait one more week before I can figure it out. The way I see, it Marshall wins one of the two remaining games they...

I guess the JV and 9th grade games are still on today and tonight in Texarkana with the Mavs ?? Any word for sure? I know they will play at Grim stadium which is a grass field. To all going north for the games, have a safe trip.

What is your take on this game ? Hard to figure the Tigers out this year. I know Marshall will be fired up. The Texas High/Marshall series is very old. Look for a hard hitting game in Marshall Friday.

Both teams will be ready, and I expect both to be playing in the playoffs after the regular season ends. This game should decide the # 2 slot in district play.
