I expect Longview to dominate football.

At least at first. Obviously..... history says that the district will either catch up to them.... or Longview will level off close to where the talent base is currently at in the district.

Outside of football.... I think LHS will struggle in the other sports. I've never seen a district as stacked as this one when it comes to basketball and soccer. And when you see non district games between 12-4A and 12-5A..... the 4A's dominate.

Baseball is pretty tough in this district too.

Longview is usually strong in track. I would expect them to compete.

Still a little mind boggling to think about LHS being 4A.....but here they are. If the rules don't change in the next 3-4 alignments.... Lufkin and JT will be joining us.

I understand talent is at times cyclical but what you are saying makes no sense. So you think we will be like PT, MT Pleasant, or Hallsville?? Longview has not had near as much talent the last two years as we have had in years past yet we still won a district title and had a very good run the playoffs last year(barely lost in 06 to a very good Garland team who went to the semis and lost to state champ). Longview has alot of talent coming up for the next 3 years and even if I didnt know that I would expect us to compete very strongly in district and the playoffs. Correct me if i am wrong but hasnt Waco been very strong since they dropped? Our all time record vs Waco is like 9-0. As long as Longview continues to hire good coaches we will be strong. I think that has been Marshalls problem. Since Southern left you just havent been able to put it together and I know you have had some talent.

I wondered how long it would be before a lobo fan would wander away from the 5atexasfootball board and start trolling for anti-lobo talk on any of other boards after being tossed out of the 5A kingdom. I be darned that it isn't the most loved poster in Lufkin and the 5a board....lol

OK....let me try and explain. It wasn't anti Lobo talk.

If you'll notice......BEFORE I said anything about the talent at Longview I stated that, "My hope is that we (the district) will catch up". I think it's the hope that everyone in the district will get better so that Longview doesn't steamroll us. Elevate the play of everyone. We've seen it at every level of sports. Teams improve to the level of their competition. Well.....SOME teams. There will always be those that lose no matter where they are at.

If Longview sticks with this district long enough, yes..... I do think that eventually Texas High and Marshall (and others) could improve enough to compete with the Lobos. We were together for some 90 years.......Texas High for about 70....... and there was plenty of winning for all 3 programs.

ALSO.....notice that I stated that I thought Longview to dominate football. At least at first. I suppose had I stopped at dominate football, you would have been happy. That second sentence bothered you. But the idea (a HYPOTHESIS) that the Lobos could level off to their level of competition is unacceptable to think of.

Notice I said it was a hypothesis. Not fact.....

I just think back. Think back to old 12-5A (Long, Lufkin, Marshal, Lee, JT, etc). Think about all the DEEP playoff runs each school had back in the 80's and 90's.

Things started breaking apart....... it started in 2002 when Nac and Marshall left. Then after the round robin dropped..... East Texas was split up completely.

I don't think there is a Lobo fan out there that would disagree that Longview's district for the last 4 years has been remotely as competitive as the old 12-5A. Do you think the Lobos have played their best football the last 4 years, or do you think they played better football when they were in the incredibly tough 12-5A? Why is that? Could it POSSIBLY be that district play leveled off for Longview, Lee, and JT to the competition of Mesquite, Horn, etc? I'm not saying it's FACT.....I'm asking. Yes....I know LHS has won 4 district titles in a row. but has the level of play been as impressive as youi remember it being in the old district?

I think we've seen the same happen in Lufkin. They have won district every season since moving into their current address. But has the level of play been OVERALL as strong the last 3-4 season as we saw prior to 2004? Just a thought.

Seems like we've seen more LP and Lobo teams (that I have cheered for BTW) lose in the second round than we saw back when they were knocking each others teeth in back in 12-5A. Is that because of the level of district competion??

I have no answer to that. Like I said....it's just a hypothesis. It's not a snide comment about Lobo football.

Like I've said multiple times since the alignment...... I expect LHS to dominate football in this district. At least at first. I hope we're together long enough to see if Marshall, Texas High, Hallsville, or anyone can make the Lobos break a sweat.

But don't confuse all the other teams' respect for the Lobo program and picking them to win as a concession to surrender. There is probably no other team in the district that everyone wants to beat more than Longview (with the exception of Hallsville...... they may want to beat us worse since they are 1-7 against us).

I'm thrilled about the prospect of not playing Longview right off the bat in zero week or week 1. Maybe we can have our offense ticking by the time we play each other. It may be more of the same since 2002-2007. But maybe not. I can hope.

And no....I don't think LHS will level off to what we've seen at Pine Tree (tho much improved). But I think the gap from LHS to Texas High and hopefully LHS and Marshall is surmountable. And what if PT does have a great seasons and find a way to pop someone in the mouth. They've done it to us before......they've done it to Longview before.....even if it was before I can remember it happening.

I'm not sure what you mean about us not putting it together since Southern left. Last season was our first year without him and we made it 2 rounds deep (including a win over Texas High). We lost to Mckinney in a rain storm with the temp in the 30's....... I think we've done fine without Southern IMHO. I guess we'll see this fall, eh?
