well it will be hard for this kid whoever he is to see any signifigant mound time this year due to the fact that Hood, Bayliss, and Fitz, and lets not forget the little stocky left handed black kid whose name escapes me at the moment. It would be to his benefit to become a primary pitcher with JV and log as many innings on Jv this year. I don't see him moving up to pitch unless 2 of those 4 pitchers that I mentioned earlier struggle or he showcases the A-Rod like power that he has on a consistant basis on the Jv level. I've known Hammack for years and he's not one of those coaches that gets in awe of power, he likes oppasite field line drive hitters, he will gladly take a hitter who bats around .300 and doesn't strike out alot or pop up over a guy who goes 1-4 with 2k's a pop up and a home run. This kid sounds like a real talent and seems to have a ton of potential so I expect to see him move up for the playoffs and his time will come. I hate to say this but I wouldn't like to see him on varsity this year because that means the horses that the mavs depend on are struggling. Lastly is Darious Jones a junior or senior. If he's coming back this year he will have the qb position locked up, he's an outstanding playmaker and the fact that he would get replaced by a freshmen who wasn't even on Jv most of last year after he's been on varsity as a starter for 3 yrs wouldn't be wise unless this kid just makes an overnight transformation and Darious falls on his face but great teams have tons of depth so I expect to see him on varsity this year and get some playing time but as far as him taking over as the primary QB that would take him having an outstanding camp and darious struggling. Please don't take anything I've said personal, just being realistic, but I am excited that marshall finally has a young future d-1 prospect QB/ mlb that has size and I'm anxious to see him prosper. A bit of advice don't get impatient with the coaches, they give him as much playing time on the level they believe he should be on as he can handle. All the camps you speak will help him improve as a player and a person but if he doesn't start untill he is a junior in football or baseball don't become discouraged.

I will go on record as saying I want to see the mavs win state and if this chandler kid is the one to do it then by all means play him. I've heard of him and I'm not even in the state untill the weekends. But I also feel that with his lack of experiance against the older groups he needs to prove himself against the older players and he will get his shot. But generally speaking from what I've seen and experianced in the past younger players unless hands down better than the older guys don't come up unless the guys that are already there struggle or are not playing good enough to merit not giving the young gun a shot. Zach duncan one of the greatest pitchers in mav history was on varsity as a freshmen but it took a little time to get him there, like 12 games on jv and the mavs desperatly needed him in the rotation because they didn't have alot of depth. I think you should take the time to read the entire thread and you talk about someone getting offended I don't have a reason to be, as the name states I'm a former player, baseball and football, who played in the lloyd era, hammack era and got a little taste of coach harris's teachings. But it's understandable with you being related to the kid that anything that goes against what you think should be said about your nephew seems to offend you. I was in now way negative towards the kid, I wish him the best but first and formost I wish the mavs the best, and like you said I know that coach hammack would never bring up a younger kid to sit the bench and before he does that he has to give the horses that are up there a chance to run before he goes and gets a young colt from the stable, and that would mean the horses that they have are not running fast enough and thats not good. I'd love to see this kid play on varsity as soon as possible but like I said I think him coming on late in the season after he's shown consistancy on the lower levels to give the varsity a spark and put a little shock into the teams they play late who have never heard of him. Most kids who have made it to the high school level of baseball in marshall have played alot of travel ball and recieved alot of great coaching.The guys I played select ball with coming up were the exact same guys I played varsity ball with and it seems to be the case here. I used to throw batting practice to alot of these same kids that are on varsity now when they played on the east texas lightning so I know alot of there backgrounds. I wish them the best of luck this year. Also about the football thing as I recall jackson hood was a older player with alot of time in the system and yes he presented a different style because darious was signifigantly faster than him but alot of jacksons success came as a result of darious being out there at receiver. I see chandler being the 2nd string guy, no doubt he will see some playing time if the receivers are not showing big play capability and then darious might have to move to reciever but no doubt a bout it the jones kid is the focal point of the offense. In closing I'd like to say again I hope chandler progresses into something great and as I said in my last post I'm excited about the fact that marshall finally has a future d-1 hopeful in the qb position which is something marshall hasn't had in recent years as far as size goes but with him being so young, him being on varsity early in the year in baseball will come as a direct result of the older guys not playing well, and for him to become the primary qb darious would have to be hurt, struggling, or the recievers struggling. He could see some snaps though because you have to find different ways to get darious the ball and I don't think we have another qb that I know of thats capable other than this Chandler kid.
