Im surprised. I was never impressed with Preston as a play caller. He seemed very basic and I got really really tired of run right, run left, up the middle,
PUNT. I know he did more than that, but it just seemed like he wouldnt turn the page in the playbook. Oh well, good luck to him and TH........ until they paly
the Mavs.

I'm going to tread lightly on this topic because it was a sensitive subject for some when he went to Nac.
But I agree..... the Preston years in Marshall were some of the most frustrating I experienced. No matter how much talent we had at QB (Austin Christmas to name one) we had one of the most vanilla offenses devised on paper. Sure... it beat the Shreveports, and the Dallas Skylines, and the Nacs(back in the day)...... but Longview, Lufkin, and Lee had little to NO TROUBLE sniffing it out and shutting it DOWN. We could beat the teams in non district....going 4-1, 5-0, etc..... but couldn't win in district. When we played Nac last year......it looked like the same thing. We sniffed Nac's offense out...and they were shut down for the night. Best of luck to him in Texarkana. They have as much talent as anyone in the state..... just a matter of him utilizing it. |

It is good for Marshall for him to be at THS. I doubt he calls plays there though. When you work for Norton, OC is in name only ( like many HC's I know).
Long list of problems with him, just glad he is not back in MArshall..

Kyle's brother has been on the staff for Texas High for the last several years.

Just curious - how many times have the Mavs beaten Longview, Lufkin and Tyler Lee since he has left and there is a new play caller.

well i heard that he has to learn their plays so it wont be his offense that he is running but i agree. we were very simple on offense. for example in 06 we
could throw the ball a lot but after mervin dudley and tyson young left it seemed as if he forgot the pass plays. now dont get me wrong if you can run the ball
down somebodys throat then do it. like kilgore but as good as waylon was he was no kammron rhodes when teams figured out that all nac could do was run the ball
it was pretty much over but im wondering who will take over. question mavchamp who on coach harpers staff woould be a good choice to take over this offense?

Coach Harper should have no trouble finding someone to fill the position. He has got to be one of the most respected coaches in the state. Anyone would be
honored to work for him in my opinion.
On the question of how many times have we beaten Longview, Lufkin, Lee since Preston left Marshall.. I'll answer..... 1. We haven't played Tyler Lee since he left. 2. We went 0-2 against Lufkin the 2 years we played them after he left. They won state one of those years and was in the semifinals the other I believe. So no one was beating them....especially not a rebuilding 4A team. 3. We are 0-6 against Longview since he left. But let's look at Longview's record the last 6 seasons. They have 4 district titles, a couple of region finals teams...... when we were losing to Longview under Preston, the Lobos weren't making the playoffs. I believe Longview was 4-6, 3-7, and 5-5 the years they were beating Marshall. I have nothing against him as a person. I just thought he was very vanilla in his play selection. And it seems he's done it at Nac too. Nothing mean or rude. Just stating my opinion. That's what these boards are for. |

Just asking the question and I knew you of anyone out there would know. By the way - what year was it that Marshall last beat Longview in the last few
decades?
