Member Posts: 773 11/30/08 21:42:23	Tags : None The Wildcats have advanced to the quarterfinals (region championship) They have hardly broken a sweat in the playoffs really. I guess they were better than some people (that didn't even see them play) thought they were. They will play Rockwall Heath Friday night at Tx Stadium Not bad for a team with an overrated QB and no defense......eh? Longview is in the quarterfinals too. They will be playing Waco Midway Saturday at Texas Stadium. Hmmmm.......yeah. Sometimes the teams you lose to are just better than you. Congrats to both teams!!!!

Heath has already beat Highland Park and pulled a few other upsets this season. But without their top offensive weapon, that's not good for them.

Rockwall-Heath coach Mickey Moss said Monday that an injured shoulder will keep Lawrence, a senior who has rushed for 2,679 yards and 43 touchdowns this season, out of Friday's Class 4A Division II Region II final against Sulphur Springs. Lawrence suffered the injury in the second quarter of Rockwall-Heath's 17-14 victory over Ennis on Friday. "He's a difference-maker, and we'd love to have him out there," Moss said. "But there's nothing we can do about it. We've just got to move on." Lawrence, who is being recruited by several Big 12 and Pac-10 schools, is a big reason why Rockwall-Heath (13-0) has advanced to a matchup with Sulphur Springs (11-2). He has rushed for more yards and scored more touchdowns than any other 4A or 5A running back in the Dallas area. Losing Lawrence is disappointing, Moss said, but it can also be an opportunity for other members of the team to step up. In the win over Ennis, junior Jesse Irokwe filled in for Lawrence and rushed eight times for 92 yards. "We can't have all our hope and faith in one person," Moss said. "It's a good lesson not only for football, but also in life."

Member Posts: 286 12/02/08 05:15:14 Moderator	Sulphur Springs has one of the best offenses I have ever seen, and maybe the best high school QB I have ever seen. As good as their offense is though, Rollison is definitely the straw that stirs the drink. As long as he stays healthy, Sulphur Springs has just as good of a shot as anyone to win the ship. Good luck to them.

SS isn't that good. We heard it from an expert. How else can we explain our loss to them?? Now.....maybe. I think we caught TH on a night that a team with as much talent as we had shouldve beat them, but we didnt, and yes, I put a lot on the coaches for those two losses. However, I dont think we ever stood a chance against SS. We just didnt match up with them defensively at all. Not many teams have or will in my opinion.

Maybe after another 6-4 or 5-5 year some people in Marshall will get off their hands. But history shows me they will not. They will wait 10 years of being a 3rd 4th place team and get into the playoffs because the other 2 teams inteh district do not play football and MAYBE then decide they have give the coach enough time....

Member Posts: 5 12/03/08 21:08:09	I think Marshall had more talent than every team in the district until they started falling apart. This team was supposed to be special, but it didn't work out that way. The list of talent that we missed out on this year due to off the field issues and injuries at critical points in the season cost us at least a playoff win and perhaps another win or 2 during the season. Players we were without all season or a big part of it that were critical to this years success: Aaron Franklin, Dameon Smith, K.D Johnson(injury plagued), Darius Jones(injury plagued), The Luetelles(sp?), Jamal Anderson(missed playoff game)J.C Haigwood(injury plagued), Delon Perkins. It was like the stars aligned just right to make this season what it was. The football gods were not with Marshall this year. We were fortunate that 4 teams made playoffs this season or it would have seemed worse. Even with all the guys out, I still think we fielded a good team. I do think the coaching was bad at times, and horrible a couple times. We do need to shore up this defense. Most games we put up enough points to win, just this defense hasn't been up to Maverick standards the last few years.

We did miss out on a lot of talent, but I dont think that was our demise because, we still had tons of talent... it just didnt get used right. Rock said we were more talented. He based that statement on seeing "them" (whoever "them" is) twice this year. That made me scratch my head because, if "them" is one team, and not both teams, then how can you judge who had more talent?

Member Posts: 778 12/06/08 09:39:43	SS won again last night......52-47 I think. Now in the state semis..... They will face the winner of the Everman/Stephenville game. Everman has been the #2 team in the state most of the season I believe..... and Stephenville is..... well..... Stephenville. They have a nice collection of state title trophies from the 90's and I think from earlier this decade. Congrats to the Wildcats!!!

Member Posts: 290 12/06/08 11:12:15 Moderator	Yeah the SS-Rockwall Heath game last night was crazy and ended 52-47. RH was down 21 at the end of the 1st quarter but tightened up made a game out of it from then on. They had a chance to drive down and take the lead with less than a minute left but wasnt able to pull it out. They played without their stud RB last night and still hung in the game and piled up 550 yards of offense while SS had 460. Not bad for a 3rd year program. Rollison was his usual self passing for 380 yards. Im gonna make the trip to SFA tonight to catch the Carthage-Gilmer game. Should be another great game with a ton of points being scored...atleast thats what Im hoping for.
