I've been to 3 or 4 practices this spring and Fitz is definately the starting QB. He has looked good running the offense but the timing with the receivers is not there yet (still early). I have noticed several new formations but the majority is still out of the shotgun with a single back. Chandler Hancock was suppose to be competing with Fitz for the QB job but is no longer on the team as of right now. J.C. Haigwood, the returning starting RB, is out with an injury and Londell Perkins (in my opinion the best option at RB with size and speed combo) still has a lingering foot injury but is working with the 2nd and 3rd team offense. Mav01 mentioned that he has noticed an increased emphasis put on precise receiver route running and I have to agree. I look for the passing game to be a bigger factor this season. I'm glad to see OL coach Lottinger back on the sidelines as I feel his return is an upgrade and the big guys are reaping the benefits. Another player that has had a good spring is sophmore WR Daveon Williams. It looks like he's going to be Fitz go-to guy this year with nice size, speed and hands. One thing that I have noticed that I wish would change (I've been saying this for the past couple of years) is the play calling on goal-line situations. Yesterday for example the offense had the ball 1st down inside the 1 yard line and they lined up in the same shotgun single back formation. The defense broke through the line and made the play for a 3 or 4 yard loss. Watching that is so frustrating. WHY IN THE DOG DO WE NOT GO UNDER CENTER IN THOSE SITUATIONS?!?!?!?! I know shotgun is well suited for our speed but you've got 4 plays to punch it in for crying out loud!!

So far the defense has looked OK, not great but again its early. The DL has good size but is inexperienced. The secondary is going to be athletic but inexperienced as well. The strong suit of the defense without a doubt is the LB crew. With Aaron Franklin back and healthy along with returning starters JaQuan Kelly and Sam Oney the second level is going to be solid.
