I thought several players had good performances. Jamal Anderson showed that he is going to be a weapon again this year out of the slot position and out of the
backfield. Daveon Williams is going to be the go-to receiver and had several nice catches that weren't easy grabs. I liked the way the young receiver #17
for the white team (Bender?-cant remember his name) went up for the ball for his 2 TD's. The defense overall looked aggressive but can tell they are
YOUNG!! It was nice to see Aaron Franklin back on the field with that #30 on. Too bad we didnt get to see our top 2 backs run the ball because of injury
(Haigwood & Perkins). I thought Fitz ran the offense very effectively especially for the little time he has been working this spring (baseball). We have
the talent to be a good football team come August and a realistic prediction in my mind is 3rd place in district behind Longview and Texas High. This is a
playoff caliber team no doubt.

No shame in finishing behind those two. I just hope we can challenge them.....and maybe even sneak up on one (or both) of them and beat them.
Seems like Marshall has been a third place team and had a fine season nonetheless (2004...third and still made it to the state championship). Not to mention.... Sulphur Springs was third last season and we all know what they accomplished. Sounds like the offense will continue on as it usually does. Rarely does it seem that offense has been Marshall's problem year in and year out for the last 10+ years. We always seem to pull the offense together. Defense will define our season much like it did last year. Our ability to stop the power running games of Longview, Texas High, and Kilgore is key. An offense that isn't one dimensional, predictable, and generally balanced will help keep the defense out of the doghouse too. Too many times turnovers seem to put the D in a hole they couldn't always save themselves from. All in all things look OK. I didn't get to see much....I was late. Longview is a step ahead at the moment based on what I saw of them. Texas High and SS dont have spring ball so they will be a question mark. PT has a new coach and didn't have spring ball. That makes them another question mark. MP...... I have heard NOTHING about them. And Hallsville....who always seems to have loads of talent always makes me nervous no matter what our record is against them. Esp. after their showing against Longview and SS last season..... they gave both of them a better game than we did. Well....summer is here. Time to enjoy it. Football season will be here in about 12 weeks!!! |
