I am hoping for a 1998 finish when the Mavs beat the Lobos in double OT. By the way, that game can be watched on youtube.
My opinion, the Mavs can win if they play smart. The run defense of the Mavs I think can slow the Lobos running game a bit. The Mavs pass defense, if our front down lineman can get in and put pressure and contain there QB, we will be all right. As long as we can match the points Longview will score, we are in the ball game. If we get behind by 3 scores, do not think we can come back. Mavs win by taking advantage of a Longview miscue and turn it into points. By the way Fox Sports will be at the Longview DQ on Eastman Road from 4:15 p.m.-4:45 p.m. as part of their coverage of the DQ Game of the Week. The talk on smoaky.com, is that Lobos can go a head and put the state championship trophy in the case. There is a lot of football to be played until that time. Looking forward to a classic. |

A friend texted me during the fourth quarter, "Same old Marshall." I agree. For the past several years, we play them close for a few minutes, then
the bottom falls out. Be nice if we could just erase the third quarter. Do not understand the fumbles this late in the season. The interceptions, if I am
remember correctly, two of them occured on balls hitting the reciever, but were popped up in the air, and brought down by the Lobos. That just happens in
football.
The positive thing is we put 30 points on a very good, good Lobo football team. We have a legit shot of beating Texas High this week. A win over Texas High would really move scales in our favor of getting one of those three play off spots remaining. Lobos with the win all ready has a playoff spot, they two games to play against Hallsville and Pine Tree. They draw the open date on the last Friday of the regular season. Possibility Longview could move back up to 5a next year. Currently their enrollment numbers taking on Oct. 15 by gthe UIL are 3 or 4 above the last realignment numbers for 5a. We will know for sure in February. |

Keep dreaming of Longview moving back up to 5A. Looks like we'll be here to stay for at least one more realignment, probably more. If history holds true,
they'll raise the 5A cutoff once again, and we'll be securely in 4A. I could be wrong on this, but it's doubtful.

What is that supposed to mean? Do you actually believe we all hope you guys move back up to 5A so we don't have to play you or something like that?
Marshall plays Longview every year regardless. Don't talk about Longview as if they're some unbeatable force that no 4A team has a chance against.
Marshall was 5A in your district just a few years ago, and you didn't talk down to them like that then, because you were losing to them half the time. Just
because you were recently 5A and have moved down doesn't mean we all wish you would move back up because you're so great. Longview is no more
unbeatable than any other 4A team. Perhaps more disciplined, but there's nothing magical about you just because of the realignment.

Sorry it came out the wrong way. I'm glad Longview is in 4A, brings back some of the old district rivals. Marshall gave us a scare this year and last year,
and the year we played in Kilgore. For the first half. Then, whether it was our guys forcing the fumbles/turnovers, or whatever, the Mavs let the Lobos run
away with it. I know we're not unbeatable. Marshall will beat the Lobos again, and when they do, they'll get the props they deserve from me. They
played with heart Friday night, going down 20-0 as quick as they did, they could've given up easily.
Again, sorry it came out the way it did. It was just a response to the person above saying there was a possibility of Longview moving back up. I don't see that happening in the near future, if ever. But, then again who knows. A lot of new construction going on in LISD and with the new administration things are turning around some from what they were under previous superintendents. In no way did I attack the Marshall team, or fans in my response above, yet I got attacked for what I said. I merely said keep dreaming if you think we're moving back to 5A. That was in NO WAY an attack on the Mavericks or any other 4A team. So step down a bit off your soapbox. |

If things keep trending the way they are..... old 12-5A will be reunited in 4A in another alignment or two..... with the exception of Lee...who never felt like
they were a part of it till neat the end of Marshall's time in 5A.
JT....may elect to remain in 5A....but they firmly have 4A numbers now...... Lufkin is nearing the bubble just as Nac and Marshall did in 2000...and then popped it in 2002. Longview did the same in 2006 and popped it in 2008. Unless the way the alignment is done CHANGES....or LP has a massive growth spurt..... Lufkin will be 4A by the 2012 or 2014 alignments. |

MavChamp, that'd be fun to see the old 12-5A reunited in 4A, but IF Lufkin eventually goes to 4A chances are they'd be in with Nac and Whitehouse.
They'd probably draw a district for north of I-20, and then one for south of I-20. But, with other schools dropping to 3A, who knows what could happen in
the next 5-10 years.

Another thing to think about is this......
As the bracket for 5A continues to move up, so is the bracket for 3A. We are already seeing Henderson, Kilgore, Lindale.....and others who have been mainstays in 4A suddlenly on the cusp on 3A. IF the current trends continue and the limits keep moving up more and more will begin to drop. Right now...... Nac, Marshall, Jax, WH, SS...and others are actually closer in enrollment to 3A than they are to enrollments at Longview, Texas High, or JT. The idea that Marshall and Nac could be 3A is a little mind boggling.....but it could happen in another 10 years if the trends continue. The DFW/Houston/I-35 corridor areas continue to open brand new schools with 5A enrollment, which forces more schools down to 4A, which in turn forces more down to 3A....it's a domino effect. The only solution, at least LONG term solution is a 6A....but UIL seems reluctant to do that. It's OK for Permian to drive to Amarillo and Lubbuck for district games..... but God forbid Plano have to drive ALL THE WAY TO ARLINGTON for a game. Or Katy have to drive through downtown to play a South Houston school. Austin driving to San Antonio???? NO WAY! The money and interest is in keeping the large metro schools that fill the playoff stadiums happy. No one cares about all the one high school towns like we have in East Texas, West Texas....etc. When schools with 2000+ are dropping to 4A and schools with 1000 are going 3A....maybe it's a time for change. There was a day when 1100 was FIRMLY 5A. And a 3A school generally had a neighborhood number of 300-400. Now mid 900's will keep you 3A. Amazing. Texas is growing.....but not in the areas we are living. Houston and the I-25 corridor is where all the growth is. Here in East Texas the growth we see in HS is more because of white flight from other schools....not new growth. Next few years are going to be interesting. |

I like the new term blackberry quarterback. I wonder how many fans in the stands text to other fans in the stands not sitting close by there thoughts. If you
had the coaches cell phone numbers, you could text them. I wonder if the coaches would check the text messages during halftime?
