Texas High was the overwhelming favorite to win the district 13-4A track meet in Hallsville. Most picked Marshall to finish a distant 2nd. Marshall was in
first place and had an 11 point lead over 2nd place Texas High going into the last event of the meet, the 4 x 400M relay. Historically the worst track event
for the Mavericks, all they had to do was finish 3rd in the race or finish 2 places behind the Tigers to secure the disrict title. That would not be the case.
Texas High finished the relay in 2nd place behind Longview and Marshall could do no better than 5th to give Texas High a 1 point win over Marshall for the
championship. It was an outstanding meet as usual as Hallsville keeps their meets rolling and on time. Marshall girls finished 5th in the district and the JV
boys look to give the Mavs a very bright future in the sport running away with the title by almost 90 points. Darius Jones once again was the standout of the
meet winning the triple jump and long jump and upsetting the favorite in the 100m Texas High's Cobi Hamilton. He also anchored the winning 4 x 100M team
with Aaron Franklin, Londell Perkins and Harris. Jones was part of the 2nd place 4 x 200M relay team as well giving him a total of 4 gold medals and 1 silver.
Congratulations to Texas High on winning the district meet as well all of the Marshall participants for giving them all they could handle and coming up just a
point short! Good luck to all of the district athletes that advanced to regionals!
