Both teams will be ready, and I expect both to be playing in the playoffs after the regular season ends. This game should decide the # 2 slot in district play.

What is your take on this game ? Hard to figure the Tigers out this year. I know Marshall will be fired up. The Texas High/Marshall series is very old. Look
for a hard hitting game in Marshall Friday.

I see this game as a very good game. I believe the teams are evenly matched. This game will be different then last year's meeting. The Mavericks turned the
ball over fives times in the first half. Hopefully the big turn over games ended on the turf of Lobo Stadium last Friday night.
Sorenson will test the Marshall DB's but I have seen improvement from this bunch. The linebackers, all three for Marshall are solid, in my book. Love to watch them operate. Brandon Fitzgerald has become a good passer. He threw for four touchdowns against the number three ranked team in the state last week. Hard to believe the Jamaal Anderson only got less then 10 yards rushing vs. Longview. I would like to see a 100 yard game from Anderson as well J C Haigwood. Looking forward to a great night at Maverick Stadium. |

Just my opinion, but I think Marshall will be too much for Texas High. I also believe Sulphur Springs will beat Marshall & we will be looking at a 3 way
tie for 2nd place in this
district. I certainly hope I'm wrong & T High all but wraps up 2nd place............but I'm picking Marshall 34-24 |

If Texas High wins tonight, it will be Tiger Head Coach Barry Norton's 100th win in 11 seasons. Mavericks need to stop that from happening.

The rivalry with Texas High is an old one, as am I.
Even in junior high, back in the 60's, we always had Texas high on the week of Halloween, and always called it our "trick or treat" game, due to their colors. We were beaten in a close game at the old Mav stadium by then #1 Texas High, while we were also unbeaten and in the top ten. It was a classic fall slobber-knocker. We got our revenge the next year at Texas High, as our victory there sealed the district championship in the old 8-4A. Watty Myers was hopping mad at our O-line, as we had a contest between the right and left side of the line, as to who could get the most down field blocks before the whistle. While I don't comment, I always read what is happening, and look forward to the playoffs when I can see good ol' East Texas football in the D/FW area. I want to thank all who are involved in this site, as I am able to stay in touch, and listen to the games on teamline. Best of luck on a great game tonight. GO MAVS! |

Not saying it's a sure thing at all. I'd still pick Sulphur Springs. Marshall's RBs certainly are something special. The team has great speed all
over. SS-Marshall could go either way.
I'll say 38-35 Sulphur Springs. |

I attended the game last night at Maverick stadium. Hats off to Marshall
great team speed. I worry about both defenses as the playoffs loom. I was very surprised that the stands were not full on both sides of the field. This game is
turning back to a big time football match up.
A few comments on Maverick stadium. both good and bad. Good - I love the fight song music you all play from the various colleges before the game. I also think the flags of the 13-4A schools outside the stadium are outstanding. About the only negative I have is the concession stand area. Very dark and the asphalt is not in good shape. I only saw the visitor side concession stand. My pick: Marshall will beat SS in a close one. SS is a tough place to play so fight hard Mavs. As for the Tigers, I expect them to beat both Hallsville and PT. Good luck to all the 13-4a teams when they enter the playoffs very soon.

I agree, there have been upgrades to the stadium but still need to be more made. The concession and restroom areas are terrible on both home and visitor side.
I was very surprised as well that there were not more fans on both sides. Both teams in my opinion will win out with Marshall beating SS and MP and TH beating
Hallsville and PT. The game that I am interested in is the SS/Hallsville game. The Bobcats could very well sneak into that last playoff spot with a good game
against the Wildcats. I think the district will end 1)Longview 6-0 2)Marshall 5-1 3)Texas High 4-2 4)Hallsville 3-3 5)Sulphur Springs 2-4 6)Mt Pleasant 1-5
7)Pine Tree 0-6.
